Abstract
The project is implemented in Liberia, with the goal of promoting improved natural resource management (NRM) and biodiversity conservation in community forests (CFs), buffer zones, and greater landscapes. During the third quarter of FY19 (October-December 2018), the FIFES team, in collaboration with Community Forest Management Bodies (CFMBs), implemented several activities that expanded priority areas such as agroforestry and biodiversity conservation. The team reached 91 direct beneficiaries, including 80 males and 11 females, through various activities such as training on solar dryer construction and utilization, forest inventorying, biomonitoring, and law enforcement. These activities improved cocoa quality, enabling farmers to sell premier quality cocoa and generating more revenue. The FIFES team also supported the development of CF management plans and provided computer literacy training for CFMBs. This training enabled CFMBs to facilitate their operations for the year, with each CFMB receiving one computer. Additionally, the team trained 13 people on forest inventory methodology, 20 community forest guards on biomonitoring and law enforcement, and 16 farmers in solar dryer management techniques. The project's implementation status highlights the accomplishments of the FIFES CFMB support teams in developing and strengthening sustainable forest enterprises. The teams have developed and strengthened sustainable forest-based enterprises, which have produced incentives to promote improved NRM and biodiversity conservation in CFs, buffer zones, and greater landscapes. The project has also reached a significant number of indirect beneficiaries, with 630 individuals benefiting from the activities of CFMB support teams. The FIFES project has made significant progress in promoting sustainable forest-based enterprises and improving NRM and biodiversity conservation in Liberia. The project's activities have improved the economic benefits of sustainable NRM and biodiversity conservation, with a total of 91 people benefiting directly from the project's activities. The project's implementation status demonstrates the effectiveness of the FIFES team's efforts in developing and strengthening sustainable forest enterprises, which will continue to promote improved NRM and biodiversity conservation in the region. The project's goal of promoting improved NRM and biodiversity conservation in CFs, buffer zones, and greater landscapes is being achieved through the development and strengthening of sustainable forest-based enterprises.
