The Professional Training Center #1 in Tirana, in collaboration with Assist Impact, developed a four-month course to equip participants with the necessary skills to repair and maintain garment machines. The course curriculum was designed to include both theoretical and practical training, with a focus on hands-on experience through an 80-hour internship. The internship component was a crucial aspect of the course, as it allowed participants to apply their knowledge in a real-world setting. Assist Impact played a key role in facilitating the internship component by providing small matching grants to four leading garment manufacturers. These grants enabled the manufacturers to purchase equipment and donate used machinery to the Professional Training Center, which in turn provided internships to course participants. The internship experience not only enhanced the participants' skills but also provided them with valuable industry connections. The course was taught by a master technician hired by Assist Impact, who was accompanied by an instructor from the Professional Training Center. The instructor attended the course to gain the necessary expertise to teach the program independently once the assistance was completed. The training center was also equipped with necessary amenities, including tables, a projector, tools, and other equipment, to ensure a conducive learning environment. The success of the garment machine maintenance training program was evident in the employment outcomes of the participants. Eight out of 14 participants found jobs or started their own businesses shortly after completing the course. The program's impact was significant, as it not only addressed the shortage of skilled technicians in the industry but also provided a sustainable solution to unemployment. The Professional Training Center's decision to start a second course without external assistance is a testament to the program's effectiveness and the potential for long-term sustainability.
