Grant to Partnership for Productivity/Liberia (PfP/L) to strengthen and expand its savings and lending/business management assistance services in Nimba County, Liberia.
1988

Abstract
To upgrade PfP/L staff, training will be provided to 24 professional extension agents and 6 supervisors with management capability. This assistance will enable PfP/L to expand two of its ongoing programs. (1) PfP/L will expand its "Saveway" program, a flexible savings arrangement with security and 6% interest, by establishing 52 additional rural locations, each serving about 40 villagers. The funds in this program will be guaranteed by International Rural Economic Development through Morgan Guaranty Trust so that the funds can be rolled over to PfP/L"s credit program. (2) PfP/L will expand its credit and small business management assistance progam by providing loans to 3,040 businesses (2,290 existing enterprises and 750 new/start-up enterprises). These will include 400 small business loans, 1,540 farming development loans to groups and individuals, and 1,100 market loans to women. Each loan recipient will be required to receive PfP/L business management assistance in the following areas: working capital control and management, cash control, inventory control, credit management, business planning and organization, costing, pricing, increasing profits, loan management, business promotion, and fixed asset management.
