Abstract
A limited number of health education materials in continuing high demand will be revised and reprinted; these include: "Primary Care and Prevention of some Common Diseases in Children"; "Child Safety"; and the French versions of "Dengue Fever" and "Dental Health." In addition, a series of new and simple booklets will be produced in the areas of human reproduction, and maternal health during pregnancy. Other areas proposed for treatment include the effects of alcohol and smoking on health, personal hygiene (including prevention and treatment of lice and scabies), and health in other adults. Posters warning of the dangers of smoking and alcohol will be produced as will flipcharts and a slide/tape show to help villagers improve sanitation and obtain clean water. Limited funds will be made available for responding to country requests to produce and print translations of certain materials into Pacific languages. SPC"s lending library of audiovisual materials will be enhanced by the purchase of films (especially 16mm), video tapes, and slide shows. Top priority will be given to films on smoking and alcohol, items which are in high demand but currently not available. Finally, the project will provide photocopying services and basic supplies to support SPC"s provision to its member countries of training and TA on health matters and program formulation, especially in high-demand areas such as school health education. Funds to help requesting countries print their own health education materials, or to purchase the equipment needed to produce them, will also be provided.
