Abstract
The system is an innovative approach to strengthen data quality and data use for improved decision making in public health. The Haryana Health GIS (HHGIS) application is an interoperable real-time GIS application that pulls together data from different health information systems and brings it onto one interactive, visually rich interface. The HHGIS application has been developed by the HFG project in partnership with the National Health Mission (NHM), Haryana. The system is designed to address the challenge of accessing, maneuvering, and using the sheer quantity of raw data captured by standalone health information applications. HHGIS seeks to make the data easily accessible and usable for analysis and monitoring, particularly in line with the state's health priorities. Key features and functionalities of HHGIS include open source software, interoperability, real-time visualization, interactive and flexible user interface, custom indicators, drill-down facility, and other useful functionalities such as layering of datasets, pop-up, pan, and zoom. The system allows users to view data in the geographical context of choice, display data elements and indicators, and make data comparisons. The HHGIS application has been linked with 12 existing health information applications, including Supportive Supervision, Concurrent Evaluation, Civil Registration System, and District Health Information System-2. The system enables users to create custom indicators to meet specific programmatic needs and allows layering of datasets for comparison. The HHGIS application has been designed to provide a robust analytical and monitoring tool for Haryana's public health system. The system enables greater data use by providing visual display of data in the geographical context, drill-down to facility-level data, data comparisons, and the flexibility to create custom indicators. The HHGIS attributes play out for data analysis and monitoring, enabling users to make informed decisions that are both robust and agile. The HHGIS application has been used to analyze health outcomes in Haryana, including maternal mortality rates. The system has enabled users to identify areas that need further exploration and has provided new insights about a program's performance. The HHGIS application has the potential to transform the way data is used in public health decision making in Haryana, enabling more effective and targeted interventions to improve health outcomes. The HHGIS application is a significant step towards strengthening data quality and data use for improved decision making in public health. The system has the potential to improve health outcomes in Haryana by enabling more effective and targeted interventions. The HHGIS application is a robust analytical and monitoring tool that can be used to analyze health outcomes, identify areas that need further exploration, and provide new insights about a program's performance.
