USAID. MISSION TO GUATEMALA
Summarizes mid-term evaluation (XD-ABB-566-A) of a project to combat immuno-preventable and diarrheal diseases among Guatemalan mothers and children.
1990

Abstract
The evaluation covered the period FY85- 9/89. The project has made a significant contribution toward improving immunization coverage for children and pregnant women as well as the use of oral rehydration therapy. Coverage rates are 53% for polio, 49% for DPT, and 59% for measles for children under one year of age. The project has also made improvements in the cold chain, training capability, decentralized financing, and the health management information system, logistics, and administrative development. The project illustrates the importance of: coordinating donor activities with overall Ministry of Health strategies; internal MOH commitment and coordination; and well-conceived and responsive administrative and financial structures.
