Abstract
The initiative is centered on the woman, newborn, and family, promoting and reinforcing the fundamental rights of the mother, newborn, and families. It emphasizes practices based on scientific evidence, taking into account the preferences and needs of women. The initiative prioritizes the implementation of high-impact care and interventions to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality. Humanized care during childbirth considers the unique needs and preferences of each mother and newborn. This approach respects the mother's autonomy, dignity, and cultural background. Key aspects of humanized care include the right to information and privacy, the right to choose a companion during labor and delivery, and the freedom to move during labor. Additionally, mothers have the right to choose their position during delivery and to receive evidence-based practices, such as skin-to-skin contact with the newborn, active management of the third stage of labor, and early initiation of breastfeeding. The initiative focuses on high-impact practices in maternal and newborn health, including access to comprehensive emergency obstetric care and essential newborn care. These practices aim to improve maternal and newborn outcomes, reducing mortality and morbidity. The initiative also emphasizes the importance of positioning and practices that facilitate labor and delivery, promoting the survival and well-being of the newborn. In Mozambique, the Maternidade Modelo Initiative is implemented by the Ministry of Health, with a focus on humanizing maternal and neonatal care. The initiative aims to improve healthcare outcomes for mothers and newborns, reducing disparities and promoting equity in access to quality care. By prioritizing humanized care and evidence-based practices, the initiative seeks to create a more responsive and effective healthcare system, ultimately improving the health and well-being of mothers and newborns in Mozambique.
