Abstract
The main economic activities in the municipality are livestock, agriculture, and oil exploitation. The municipality has a diverse geography, with a range of altitudes from 72 to 1,565 meters above sea level. The municipality is characterized by a high percentage of natural ecosystems, with 92% of its area presenting natural ecosystems, according to the IDEAM (2017). The main ecosystems in the municipality are savannas, which cover 80% of the area, followed by forests, which cover 9%. The remaining 2% of the area is occupied by agroecosystems. The municipality has a rich biodiversity, with a high concentration of species, including birds, reptiles, and mammals.
