Abstract
This 60-minute activity is designed for adults and aims to educate participants on the importance of proper nutrition during illness. The activity sheet emphasizes the need for individuals to consume specific nutrients, including protein, vitamins A and B12, vitamin C, zinc, and iron, to prevent further illness and promote recovery. These nutrients are essential for growth and development, maintaining healthy blood and nerve cells, healing wounds, and reducing illness. To achieve the objectives of the activity, participants engage in an active learning exercise, which includes a prompt and awareness section, a group activity, and a take-home and conclusion section. The prompt and awareness section involves asking participants to identify the nutrients they should consume while sick and explaining the importance of these nutrients. The group activity requires participants to create meals that incorporate these nutrients through various food groups. The activity sheet also provides a table outlining the different nutrients, their importance, and examples of foods that contain these nutrients. Additionally, it includes references to relevant publications, such as the Family Nutrition Guide by the Food and Agriculture Organization and Preventing Disease through Healthy Environments by the World Health Organization. The activity sheet encourages widespread dissemination and use, and it is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported License. The development of this activity sheet was made possible by the generous support of the American people through USAID, and the contents are the responsibility of the authors.
