Final report of the grantee, the American Red Cross, on a project (9/90-5/94) to increase the resource development (fundraising) capacity of the National Societies of its parent organization, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
1994

Abstract
According to a May 1994 external evaluation, the project contributed substantially to building fundraising capacity in the National Societies. In addition, several byproducts of the project should strengthen the Federation"s services to National Societies over the next several years: (1) a Resource Development Handbook and Training Program, which is already being adapted for use in Central Africa, Eastern and Central Europe, and Central Asia; (2) a resource development program which is integrated with the Federation"s institutional development program; (3) an emphasis on experience-sharing among the National Societies; and (4) seminars and workshops held between January and June 1994, in Southern Africa, Central America, South America, the Pacific Islands, and Malaysia. A total of 97 participants from 47 National Societies attended the seminars. Their initial purpose, which was to present to the National Societies the results of fundraising pilot projects implemented in 1992-93, was expanded to include the introduction of new resource development training materials and to allow the Societies themselves to present and share their own fundraising experiences. In-depth technical training is planned as a follow-up to the seminars.
