Abstract
Program is breaking paradigms related to security through the development of community activities that aim to change behaviors, systems, and perceptions that generate and reproduce violence. In the sector of Chamelecón in the city of San Pedro Sula, the Program successfully recovered a public space known as La Canchita de Morales, which was previously abandoned and used by gang members for illicit activities. The main achievements of the Canchita de Morales project include joint actions between the Regional Office of Education in Cortés, the National Police, and community leaders. These actions included planning meetings, activity programming, and responsibility distribution, which had never been done before among these three institutions. According to a perception report, 85% of people believed that the activity promoted joint actions between state institutions, specifically the Regional Office of Education in Cortés, the police, and community leaders. The Program also facilitated coordination meetings between the National Police and the Parents' Association of Julieta Kattan School to plan the proper use of La Canchita. This was supported by a perception report, which indicated that 100% of interviewees thought that the activity promoted confidence in the population towards these state institutions. Additionally, more than 10 new community leaders were identified and committed to supporting future security activities in alliance with the police. The Program also promoted the community and the donor to request lighting from the National Electricity Company (ENNE) for La Canchita. The Parents' Association and community members committed to providing labor and materials as a counterpart. This demonstrates the empowerment and management skills that the Program has instilled in community leaders. Beneficiaries reported tangible results, including joint efforts between the Education Secretariat and the National Police in strategic locations, particularly in violent areas, according to the Director of Education.
