Abstract
This vision will be carried out through LPD's work under its three components: Component 1, Component 2, and Component 3. Component 1 focuses on strengthening targeted civil society organizations (CSOs) to implement secondary and tertiary crime and violence prevention strategies. Component 1 activities will strengthen the efforts of CSOs that work on youth crime and violence prevention, allowing them to become more effective actors who can provide sustainable services that positively impact youth crime and violence in Jamaica. Crime prevention efforts that involve civil society and key community stakeholders working together have greater legitimacy and public confidence, making them more effective. Intermediate Result 1.1 aims to equip CSOs to target at-risk youth and deliver secondary and tertiary prevention programs. Component 2 activities will build the capacity of private sector organizations to effectively support secondary and tertiary youth crime prevention while involving the sector in strategic efforts to prevent and reduce youth crime and violence. Intermediate Result 2.1 aims to form private sector partnerships with civil society and government to implement secondary and tertiary crime and violence prevention initiatives. Component 3 focuses on strengthening the capacity of key Government of Jamaica Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to implement and sustain effective secondary and tertiary crime prevention initiatives. LPD's work under Component 3 will enhance the capacity of key MDAs to design, implement, and evaluate evidence-based crime prevention programs. This will enable MDAs to better address the root causes of youth crime and violence, and to develop more effective strategies for preventing and reducing crime. During the reporting period, January 1, 2021 – March 31, 2021, LPD made significant progress in achieving its objectives. Key achievements include the strengthening of targeted CSOs, the formation of private sector partnerships, and the enhancement of the capacity of key MDAs. LPD also made progress in implementing its activity implementation plan, which includes the development of a performance monitoring and evaluation plan (PMEP) and the establishment of a risk assessment dashboard. LPD's work under Component 1 has resulted in the strengthening of targeted CSOs, which has enabled them to become more effective actors in providing sustainable services that positively impact youth crime and violence in Jamaica. Component 2 activities have resulted in the formation of private sector partnerships, which have enabled the sector to effectively support secondary and tertiary youth crime prevention initiatives. Component 3 activities have resulted in the enhancement of the capacity of key MDAs, which has enabled them to better address the root causes of youth crime and violence. LPD's progress has been monitored and evaluated through its PMEP, which tracks the implementation of its activity implementation plan. The PMEP has enabled LPD to identify areas of strength and weakness, and to make adjustments to its implementation plan as needed. LPD has also established a risk assessment dashboard, which enables it to identify and mitigate potential risks to its implementation plan. Overall, LPD's progress during the reporting period has been significant, and the organization is well-positioned to achieve its objectives in the coming quarters. LPD's work under its three components has resulted in the strengthening of targeted CSOs, the formation of private sector partnerships, and the enhancement of the capacity of key MDAs. LPD's progress has been monitored and evaluated through its PMEP and risk assessment dashboard, and the organization is committed to continuing its efforts to prevent and reduce youth crime and violence in Jamaica.
