Abstract
This vision will be carried out through LPD's work under its three components: Component 1, Component 2, and Component 3. Component 1 focuses on strengthening targeted civil society organizations (CSOs) to implement secondary and tertiary crime and violence prevention strategies. Intermediate Result 1.1 aims to equip CSOs to target at-risk youth and deliver secondary and tertiary prevention programs. Component 2 activities build the capacity of private sector organizations to effectively support secondary and tertiary youth crime prevention while involving the sector in strategic efforts to prevent and reduce youth crime and violence. Intermediate Result 2.1 seeks to form private sector partnerships with civil society and government to implement secondary and tertiary crime and violence prevention initiatives. Component 3 engages Government of Jamaica (GOJ) institutions that directly support targeted CSOs and work in the area of crime and violence to enable them to design and sustain effective crime prevention strategies. Intermediate Results 3.1 and 3.2 aim to increase the capacity of key government MDAs to implement evidence-based secondary and tertiary crime prevention strategies and improve the enabling environment for CSOs advancing crime and violence prevention. LPD interventions target youth who are at medium to high risk of becoming involved in violent crime. Research indicates that young men are at the highest risk of being both victims and perpetrators, and therefore, the majority of LPD interventions focus on this demographic. The goal is to provide sustainable services that positively impact youth crime and violence in Jamaica. Crime prevention efforts that involve civil society and key community stakeholders working together have greater legitimacy and public confidence, making them more effective. Component 1 activities include strengthening the efforts of CSOs that work on youth crime and violence prevention, allowing them to become more effective actors who can provide sustainable services that positively impact youth crime and violence in Jamaica. Component 2 activities focus on building the capacity of private sector organizations to effectively support secondary and tertiary youth crime prevention while involving the sector in strategic efforts to prevent and reduce youth crime and violence. Component 3 activities engage Government of Jamaica (GOJ) institutions that directly support targeted CSOs and work in the area of crime and violence to enable them to design and sustain effective crime prevention strategies. LPD's work under its three components aims to achieve Intermediate Results 1.1, 2.1, 3.1, and 3.2. These results are critical to the success of LPD's vision and will contribute to the advancement of collaborative, evidence-based youth crime and violence prevention strategies in Jamaica. By strengthening targeted CSOs, building private sector partnerships, and engaging key GOJ institutions, LPD aims to create a more effective and sustainable approach to youth crime and violence prevention in Jamaica.
