Abstract
The college's equipment search was completed in April 2012, and the procurement of learning machinery, teaching materials, and a 15kVA powered generator was also completed in April 2012. The generator is now installed on site at KCoST premises. Task 2 involved the preparation of draft curricula for various levels of certification, including Basic Technician Certificate, Technician Certificate, and Ordinary Diploma. These curricula are classified as National Technician Award Level 4, National Technician Award Level 5, and National Technician Award Level 6, respectively, by the National Council for Technical Education (NACTE). The curricula are ready for submission to NACTE in June 2012 for accreditation. Course advertisement is ongoing, with the website design in its final stage of preparation. The website will be launched in the third week of June 2012. Task 7, which involved the admission of students, was initially planned to close on March 30, 2012, but was extended to April 30, 2012, due to high demand. A total of 58 students have been registered, with 72 students admitted by the end of April 2012. Teaching of the 2012 batch started in January 2012 and will last for nine months. One guest lecturer from the University of Dar es Salaam visited KCoST to deliver a course titled 'Textile Processing Routes.' The Project Coordinator visited the college in May 2012 as part of the quality assurance exercise and conducted meetings with KCoST staff. Individual lecturers and tutors have started preparing teaching manuals for their specific courses. Task 8 and Task 9, which involve visitation of staff and students, respectively, have not been completed. However, preparations are on schedule for these activities, which are planned to take place in August 2012 and at a later date, respectively. Task 10, which involves programme accreditation, is also not completed, but preparations are on schedule. The college has formed one textile cluster with two female members from last year's graduates, who have been provided with a knitting machine donated by the vendor.
