1991

Abstract
training to mid-level labor leaders from developing countries worldwide. The project, which will be implemented by the U.S. Department of Labor/International Labor Affairs Bureau, will train about 1,000 persons in all. Each year, the project will fund five motivational and other specialized training programs for groups of 18-22 persons each, representing three labor interest groups -- government, unions, and the private sector. The training will focus on the roles of these different interest groups in developing labor policy, and on the role of unions in overall socioeconomic development. Major themes will include women in the workplace, occupational safety and health, labor/management cooperation, labor relations in a democratic society, and labor productivity. Each program will include a week of orientation in Washington, D.C., and a 2-week academic seminar at a U.S. university. In addition, participants will visit farm worker organizations, trade union social assistance facilities, workers" training programs, industries, and public and private institutions. Participants will be encouraged to form alumni groups.
