Abstract
The program, which began in 2016 and is set to conclude in 2021, has three primary objectives: Financial Inclusion, Financial Services and Microcredit, and Livelihoods. The program's ultimate goal is to improve livelihoods, create jobs, and reduce poverty while facilitating the growth of inclusivity in Lebanon. As of Quarter 3, Year 5, the program's focus shifted towards concluding relationships with key partners in all three components. This included promoting policies for inclusion at the Banque Du Liban and the Lebanese Micro Finance Association, providing affordable credit to micro and small businesses through select Micro Finance Institutions, and supporting Regional Revitalization Hubs. These hubs enabled high-impact investments in future livelihoods for small businesses in the North, South, and Beka'a regions of Lebanon. The program's implementation has been guided by a set of indicators, which are tracked and monitored through regular progress reports. The reports provide an overview of the program's activities, achievements, and challenges, as well as recommendations for future improvements. The LIFE Program has been instrumental in promoting financial inclusion and supporting the growth of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Lebanon. One of the key components of the program is the promotion of financial inclusion, which involves strengthening the capacity of Micro Finance Institutions (MFIs) to provide financial services to vulnerable populations. The program has also focused on providing business training and technical assistance to MSMEs, with the aim of improving their competitiveness and access to markets. In addition to its financial inclusion and business development components, the LIFE Program has also focused on supporting the growth of Regional Revitalization Hubs. These hubs have been established in various regions of Lebanon, including the North, South, and Beka'a, and have provided a platform for MSMEs to access markets, receive business training, and access financial services. The program's impact has been significant, with a notable increase in the number of MSMEs accessing financial services and business training. The program has also contributed to the growth of the MSME sector in Lebanon, with many businesses reporting improved sales and revenue. However, the program has also faced challenges, including the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the August 4th, 2020, Port explosion, which have affected the livelihoods of many MSMEs. Overall, the LIFE Program has made significant contributions to promoting financial inclusion and supporting the growth of MSMEs in Lebanon. The program's focus on regional revitalization has also helped to promote economic growth and development in various regions of the country. As the program concludes, it is expected to leave a lasting legacy in the form of a more inclusive and vibrant MSME sector in Lebanon.
