Abstract
The project has three primary objectives: Financial Inclusion, Financial Services, and Livelihoods. The program's main goal is to improve livelihoods, create jobs, and reduce poverty while facilitating the growth of inclusivity in Lebanon. The LIFE Program has been operational since 2016 and is set to conclude in 2021. As the project approaches its close, it is winding down many of its interventions while still awarding innovative grants to the most successful partners. Over the last three quarters, LIFE has focused on direct responses to the Beirut port explosion of August 4th, 2020. In Quarter 2 of Year 5, most of those interventions have been successfully completed, demonstrating USAID's ability to respond to a crisis. Component I of the LIFE Program focuses on Inclusive Finance, with a specific emphasis on institutional strengthening. This involves supporting the development of the Lebanon Microfinance Association (LMFA) to enhance its capacity to regulate and supervise microfinance institutions. The LMFA has been instrumental in promoting financial inclusion in Lebanon, particularly among vulnerable populations. Component II of the LIFE Program focuses on Microcredit and Financial Services. This component has been instrumental in providing access to financial services for vulnerable populations, including women and people with disabilities. The program has partnered with various microfinance institutions, including Banque Libano-Française SAL (BLF) and Association for the Development of Rural Capacities (ADR), to provide financial services to these populations. Component III of the LIFE Program focuses on Livelihoods, with a specific emphasis on supporting vulnerable populations, including people with disabilities and women. The program has partnered with various organizations, including the Lebanese Union for People with Physical Disabilities and the Entrepreneurial Development Foundation, to provide training and financial support to these populations. The LIFE Program has made significant progress in achieving its objectives, particularly in terms of financial inclusion and livelihoods. The program has provided training and financial support to over 2,500 vulnerable businesses, resulting in a significant increase in household income among program participants. The program has also made significant progress in promoting financial inclusion, particularly among women and people with disabilities. The LIFE Program has also made significant progress in terms of crisis response, particularly in the aftermath of the Beirut port explosion. The program has provided direct support to vulnerable populations, including people with disabilities and women, to help them recover from the crisis. The program has also provided training and financial support to businesses affected by the crisis, resulting in a significant increase in economic activity. Overall, the LIFE Program has made significant progress in achieving its objectives, particularly in terms of financial inclusion and livelihoods. The program has demonstrated its ability to respond to crises, particularly in the aftermath of the Beirut port explosion. The program's success has been attributed to its strong partnerships with various organizations, including microfinance institutions and NGOs, as well as its ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
