Abstract
The program operates in 12 districts, with a focus on increasing access to quality feed, improving livestock management practices, and enhancing the nutritional value of livestock products. Improved fodder and forage demonstration and dissemination were key components of the program's efforts to increase livestock productivity. Demonstration plots were established in 15 communities, showcasing the benefits of improved fodder and forage management practices. These plots demonstrated a 60% increase in yield when using recommended practices. Farmer training programs were also conducted, with over 2,500 farmers receiving training in sustainable agriculture techniques. The program also focused on improving access to hygienic, diverse, and quality food for rural households. Enhanced preservation of livestock products was achieved through the distribution of solar dryers and other equipment. This allowed farmers to preserve their products for longer periods, reducing food waste and increasing access to nutritious food. Nutrition awareness and practices were also improved through the program's efforts. Farmers were trained on the importance of nutrition and the benefits of consuming a diverse diet. The program also conducted awareness campaigns to promote the use of fortified livestock products, which are rich in essential micronutrients. The program's partnerships with government agencies, private sector companies, and other stakeholders played a crucial role in its success. The program collaborated with the Department of Livestock Services (DLS) and the Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute (BLRI) to provide livestock services to farmers. The program also partnered with microfinance institutions to provide access to finance for farmers. The program's gender activities focused on empowering women in the livestock sector. The program also facilitated income generation for women through the sale of livestock products and the provision of training and capacity-building opportunities. Monitoring, evaluation, and learning were critical components of the program's success. The program conducted regular internal data quality assessments (DQA) to ensure the accuracy and reliability of its data. The program also conducted beneficiary and household profiling to better understand the needs and challenges of its target population. The program's efforts to improve nutrition awareness and practices also led to an increase in the consumption of fortified livestock products. However, the program faced several challenges, including equipment costs and limited access to markets. The program also faced challenges in promoting men's engagement in the livestock sector. Despite these challenges, the program made significant progress in its first quarter, laying the foundation for future success.
