Abstract
The program is implemented by Creative Associates International, in partnership with local organizations, and focuses on building trust between conflict-affected communities and their governments. The program's objectives include enhancing the conflict prevention and resolution capacity of local actors, promoting peaceful coexistence between communities, and reducing youth, family, and community vulnerability to violent extremism. The program's activities are being implemented in 41 conflict-affected communes in the center and northern Mali, covering seven regions. The program's progress and achievements under the three objectives are summarized as follows: Objective 1: Resilience to Violence and Conflict Reinforced The program has concluded its foundational activities in the center and north, and has completed conflict prevention and mitigation training for local influential actors. The program has also conducted P2P community dialogues/public debates aimed at promoting social cohesion in conflict-affected areas. Objective 2: Inclusive Governance and Civic Engagement Strengthened The program has held meetings with regional agencies to discuss the process for developing PDESCs and to mutually agree on the roadmap for increasing citizen participation in the process. Objective 3: Empowering Youth and Building Their Resilience to Violent Extremism The program has conducted Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE) training in nine communes and has organized a peace caravan and two public debates in Macoumba and Tenenkou. The program has also conducted an asset mapping activity to promote civic engagement and entrepreneurial initiatives among youth. The program's cross-cutting activities aim to promote social cohesion through a Malian cultural prism. The #1Mali1Peace campaign, launched in September 2019, has been completed, and seven grants have been awarded to local organizations. The program's progress and achievements are significant, and the feedback received from presentations of the ICAF-FRAME findings will inform how results are disseminated at regional and commune levels. The program's activities are expected to contribute to the full and complete implementation of the peace agreement and regional development plans, creating conditions for more lasting peace.
