Abstract
The project aimed to address the root causes of violent extremism in the Sahel region, including development issues, environmental degradation, political and social marginalization, organized crime, and weak governance. The manual is a result of five years of experience in implementing the PDev II project, specifically the component focused on improving and reinforcing peace-sensitive social communication in the Sahel. It was prepared by Search For Common Ground, one of the project's partners, and is intended for practitioners of mobile cinema, including trainers, facilitators, and animators working in the field. The manual is designed to provide a reference guide and support for actors at both national and community levels, offering principles and practical exercises to help users achieve expected results. The content is based on lessons learned from training and facilitation sessions during the project's implementation in the Sahel. The manual consists of three modules: Leadership, Communication for Leadership, and Conflict Transformation. Each module is divided into several units, covering topics such as leadership characteristics, communication principles, conflict definitions, and transformation techniques. The Leadership module explores the concept of leadership, including its characteristics, sources of power, and styles. The Communication for Leadership module focuses on effective communication, including definition, capacities, and principles. The Conflict Transformation module delves into conflict definitions, types, levels, and attitudes, as well as transformation principles and techniques. The manual is a valuable resource for practitioners working in the field of peacebuilding and community engagement, particularly in the Sahel region. It provides a comprehensive framework for understanding and addressing the complex issues related to violent extremism and promoting peace and resilience in communities. The development of this manual was made possible through the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The content of the manual does not necessarily reflect the views of USAID or the US government.
