Abstract
The project's ultimate goal is to enhance biodiversity conservation and human wellbeing. Four intermediate results (IRs) have been defined to achieve this goal: IR1, IR2, IR3, and IR4. IR1 focuses on building capacity for best practices in the program cycle in USAID biodiversity programs. This involves equipping staff with knowledge and tools through research, evaluations, technical assistance, and sharing of lessons learned. IR2 aims to improve biodiversity conservation approaches by addressing the threats and drivers of biodiversity loss, especially wildlife trafficking. IR3 is centered on building the evidence base that informs programming decisions. This involves developing the evidence base for sustainable livelihoods, food security, and nutrition, as well as community engagement in anti-trafficking. IR4 focuses on synthesis and outreach, which involves sharing knowledge and lessons learned with USAID staff and partners. In Q3 fiscal year 2015, the Measuring Impact project continued to provide technical assistance and trainings to USAID Washington and Missions. The project initiated work on the Conservation Enterprises Learning Program and metrics for combatting wildlife crime. Progress was made in developing the evidence base for sustainable livelihoods, food security, and nutrition, as well as community engagement in anti-trafficking. Key highlights from Q3 FY15 include designing the South America Regional environment program through a collaborative and evidence-based process. Technical assistance and training were delivered to focal Missions, with three in-person site visits to Peru, SAR/Colombia, and Madagascar. The Conservation Enterprise Learning Group was launched, followed by key interviews with Mission staff to understand their involvement in conservation enterprises and their specific learning needs. The project also built the evidence base for the importance of wild fisheries to nutrition and food security in nine Feed the Future countries. Country profiles were completed that synthesize evidence about the importance of capture fisheries for nutrition and food security, as well as key management issues and threats. The Measuring Impact project is funded and managed by the United States Agency for International Development Office of Forestry and Biodiversity, and Bureau for Economic Growth, Education, and the Environment. The project is implemented by Environmental Incentives, LLC, Foundations of Success, and ICF International.
