Abstract
The program aims to develop the basic education and foundational skills of youth, strengthen employment skills for improved livelihoods, and support the creation of an enabling environment for improved youth productivity. The module focuses on the importance of good personal care and healthy habits at work, understanding good personal hygiene practices, and identifying ways to prevent the spread of diseases, including COVID-19. Participants will learn about good food sanitation practices, the causes and signs of malaria, and how to prevent and treat malaria. The module is divided into four sessions, each with specific activities and time allocations. Session 1, Positive Health and Safe Hygiene Practices, covers healthy habits, hygiene and sanitation practices, and the importance of taking care of one's body. This session includes an introductory activity, an introduction to the Team Challenge, and a discussion on healthy habits. Session 2, Preventable Illnesses, focuses on healthy hygiene and sanitation practices, the causes, signs, treatment, and prevention of malaria, and the importance of taking necessary steps to prevent malaria. This session includes a demonstration of healthy hygiene and sanitation practices and a discussion on the causes and signs of malaria. Session 3, Hazards in the Workplace, covers identifying potential dangers on the job, preventing common workplace accidents, and taking necessary steps to respond in emergencies. This session includes a discussion on hazards in the workplace, ways to make work safer, and a group observation of safety in the workplace. Session 4, Emergencies at Work, focuses on understanding what constitutes an emergency, responding appropriately to emergencies, and staying healthy at work. This session includes a discussion on emergencies at work, responding to emergencies, and staying healthy at work. The module includes a pre-module self-assessment, which helps participants identify their strengths and weaknesses in areas such as taking care of their body, preventing sickness through proper sanitation and hygiene, and taking necessary steps to prevent malaria. The module also includes a post-module self-assessment, which helps participants evaluate their progress and identify areas for improvement. The module is designed to be completed in 9 hours and 10 minutes, with an optional additional hour for the group observation of safety in the workplace. The module includes written documentation, handouts, and trainer tools to support the facilitation of the module. Overall, the module on Foundations of Health - Preventable Diseases is an important component of the Work Ready Now program, providing participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to maintain good health and prevent diseases in the workplace.
