Abstract
The module is part of the USAID Youth Advance - Pathway 1 program in Liberia, which aims to improve the lives of youth by developing their basic education and foundational skills, strengthening employment skills for improved livelihoods, and creating an enabling environment for improved youth productivity. The module's objectives are to enable participants to label and describe the different parts of the male and female reproductive system and their functions, describe key information on menstruation, pregnancy, and sex, and identify the difference between gender and sex. Additionally, participants will be able to examine their own experiences with gender roles and norms, describe what it means to be sexually healthy, and explain what family planning is, the benefits of family planning, and different family planning methods. The module is divided into six sessions, each with a specific focus area. Session 1: Understanding Reproductive Health covers the basics of reproductive health, including the male and female reproductive systems, menstruation, pregnancy, and sex. Session 2: Gender, Sexual Health, and Healthy Relationships explores the concepts of gender, sexual health, and healthy relationships, including understanding terms, gender roles and norms, and what it means to be sexually healthy. Session 3: Family Planning delves into the topic of family planning, including what it is, the benefits of family planning, and different family planning methods. Session 4: Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) including HIV/AIDS covers the basics of STIs, including HIV and AIDS, their modes of transmission and prevention, and how to access HIV voluntary counseling and testing and antiretroviral treatment. Session 5: Relationship Dynamics focuses on healthy and unhealthy relationships, including revisiting gender roles and norms, and understanding different types of violence against men and women. Session 6: Gender-Based Violence explores the topic of gender-based violence, including introduction to GBV, different types of GBV, sexual violence, and assertive communication strategies to respond to GBV. The module's activities are designed to be interactive and engaging, with a total time of 17 hours and 35 minutes. The activities include introductory activities, quizzes, games, demonstrations, and group discussions. The trainer's manual provides a comprehensive guide for trainers to facilitate the module's activities and ensure that participants achieve the module's objectives. The module's written documentation includes a list of tasks that participants must complete, which will be checked and followed up by the trainer. The module's objectives and activities are designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to make informed decisions about their sexual and reproductive health, and to promote healthy relationships and prevent gender-based violence.
