Abstract
The program aims to improve the lives of youth in Pathway 2, with a specific emphasis on developing communication skills. Module 3 of the program, Communication Skills, is designed to equip participants with essential skills for effective communication, including listening, speaking, and teamwork. The module objectives include enabling participants to listen actively and speak appropriately, give and receive instructions effectively, identify non-verbal communication signs and their impact on people's perceptions, cooperate and work as a team member, and identify and practice good customer service skills. Pre-module self-assessment is an essential component of the module, allowing participants to evaluate their current level of proficiency in communication skills. The assessment includes a series of statements related to listening, speaking, and teamwork, with participants rating their level of experience and confidence in each area. The facilitator will read the statements and ask participants to indicate their level of agreement using a scale of 1 to 5. Effective listening skills and strategies are a key focus of the module, with participants learning to use appropriate body language, listen without interrupting, repeat what the speaker has said to ensure understanding, and ask questions for clarification. Non-verbal communication cues, including body language and tone of voice, are also discussed, as well as the importance of being aware of one's own attitude and biases. The module includes a range of written tasks and handouts to support learning, including worksheets, observation forms, and handouts on effective listening skills, non-verbal communication, and customer service. Participants are expected to complete these tasks and submit them to the facilitator for review and feedback. The USAID Youth Advance Program in Liberia aims to improve the lives of youth in Pathway 2 by developing their communication skills, employment skills, and enabling environment. Module 3, Communication Skills, is a critical component of the program, equipping participants with essential skills for effective communication, teamwork, and customer service. By completing the module, participants will be better equipped to succeed in their personal and professional lives, and to contribute positively to their communities.
