Abstract
The program aims to increase access to and quality of integrated family planning, reproductive health, and maternal, newborn, and child health care and services in South Sudan. The program focuses on three strategic objectives: increasing access to and quality of integrated FP/RH/MNCH care and services in public and private health sectors, increasing demand for and utilization of quality FP/RH/MNCH interventions and care by individuals, families, and communities, and enhancing resilience and inclusiveness of the health system in South Sudan with increased capacity to improve integrated client-centered FP/RH/MNCH care and services. In Quarter 2 of Program Year 3, the program achieved several key milestones. According to Table 1, a total of 12,456 people were provided with family planning services by delivery points, representing a 25% increase from the previous quarter. Table 2 highlights gaps identified by quality improvement teams, including inadequate training for healthcare providers and limited access to family planning commodities. The program also made progress in increasing demand for and utilization of quality family planning interventions and care. Table 3 shows that 1,200 women received postpartum family planning services, representing a 50% increase from the previous quarter. Additionally, 500 community health workers were trained in integrated community case management, which includes family planning services. In terms of enhancing resilience and inclusiveness of the health system, the program implemented several activities to improve the capacity of healthcare providers to deliver integrated client-centered care. Table 6 shows that 20 supervision areas were covered by the program's Lot Quality Assurance Sampling (LQAS) initiative, which aims to improve the quality of family planning services. The program also made progress in monitoring and evaluation, with Table 8 showing that 80% of health facilities reported improved data quality, and Table 9 highlighting staff changes in Quarter 2. The program's planned activities for the next quarter include training 500 healthcare providers in basic emergency obstetric and newborn care and conducting a mid-term evaluation of the program's impact.
