Abstract
Agency for International Development (USAID) to improve maternal, newborn, and child health and family planning and reproductive health services in fragile and conflict-affected settings. The project is implemented by IMA World Health, with partners JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc., Pathfinder International, GOAL USA Fund, CARE, and Africa Christian Health Associations Platform. The project's main purpose is to scale up and sustain access to and use of evidence-based, quality family planning and reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health (FP/RMNCAH) information, services, and interventions. To achieve this goal, the project focuses on four key results: improving the capacity of host-country institutions and local organizations to deliver FP/RMNCAH services, increasing adaptive learning and use of evidence in FP/RMNCAH programming, promoting cross-sectoral collaboration and innovative partnerships, and improving the quality of care for FP/RMNCAH services. During the second quarter of fiscal year 2021, the project made significant progress in achieving its goals. Under Result 1, the project completed a protocol to define the goals of its basic assessment toolkit, which will support the implementation of context-specific approaches at the country level. The project also assembled priority clinical interventions for fragile settings and revised the table of priority clinical content areas across service levels. The project's efforts to improve the capacity of host-country institutions and local organizations to deliver FP/RMNCAH services included conducting mapping for the toolkit and identifying questions from existing, standardized tools to be modified for different country contexts. The project also began drafting a protocol to define the goals of its basic assessment toolkit. In addition to these efforts, the project continued to work on improving the quality of care for FP/RMNCAH services. The project's focus on cross-sectoral collaboration and innovative partnerships led to the development of new partnerships and collaborations with local organizations and stakeholders. The project's progress was monitored and evaluated through regular meetings and reports, which provided an update on the project's activities and achievements. The project's results and achievements were also shared with stakeholders and partners to ensure that the project's goals and objectives were aligned with the needs and priorities of the target population. Overall, the project's progress during the second quarter of fiscal year 2021 demonstrated its commitment to improving maternal, newborn, and child health and family planning and reproductive health services in fragile and conflict-affected settings. The project's efforts to scale up and sustain access to and use of evidence-based, quality FP/RMNCAH information, services, and interventions will continue to be a key focus area for the project in the coming quarters. The project's geographic focus is on fragile and conflict-affected settings, with a specific emphasis on countries in Africa and Asia. The project's timeframes are quarterly, with regular reporting and evaluation to ensure that the project's goals and objectives are being met. The project's recommendations for future action include continuing to work on improving the capacity of host-country institutions and local organizations to deliver FP/RMNCAH services, increasing adaptive learning and use of evidence in FP/RMNCAH programming, promoting cross-sectoral collaboration and innovative partnerships, and improving the quality of care for FP/RMNCAH services. The project also recommends continuing to work with local organizations and stakeholders to develop new partnerships and collaborations that will help to achieve the project's goals and objectives.
