Abstract
The project is part of the USAID's efforts to improve Palestinians' access to basic infrastructure and services, thereby contributing to the Palestinian economy's growth. The TWCP project involves the rehabilitation and construction of the Irtah Pump Station (IPS), which was originally designed to transport Tulkarem's wastewater to oxidation ponds for treatment. However, the IPS has fallen into disrepair, and untreated wastewater continues to flow into open wadis and cesspits in unserved communities, posing significant health and environmental risks. The project's objectives include improving the collection and treatment of wastewater in Tulkarem, reducing the risk of waterborne diseases, and enhancing the overall quality of life for the city's residents. To achieve these objectives, the project will implement a range of interventions, including the rehabilitation of the IPS, the construction of new wastewater collection infrastructure, and the installation of treatment facilities. The project's scope of work includes the design, procurement, and construction of the IPS and associated infrastructure, as well as the provision of technical assistance and training to local stakeholders. The project will also involve the development of a comprehensive environmental management plan to ensure that the project's activities are carried out in an environmentally sustainable manner. The TWCP project is being implemented by The Morganti Group, Inc. (TMGI) under a Task Order (TO) with the USAID. The project's progress is being monitored and reported on a monthly basis, with the current report covering the period from April 1 to April 30, 2023. Key activities undertaken during this reporting period include the completion of the IPS rehabilitation design, the procurement of materials and equipment, and the commencement of construction work on the IPS and associated infrastructure. The project team has also conducted regular site visits and meetings with local stakeholders to ensure that the project is being implemented in accordance with the agreed-upon schedule and budget. The project's progress is being tracked against a range of indicators, including the completion of design and construction work, the installation of treatment facilities, and the improvement in wastewater collection and treatment services. The project team is also monitoring the project's environmental and social impacts, including the reduction in waterborne diseases and the enhancement of the overall quality of life for the city's residents. Overall, the TWCP project is making significant progress towards its objectives, and the project team is committed to ensuring that the project is completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
