USAID. MISSION TO MOZAMBIQUE
Project to facilitate post-drought recovery in Mozambique through road rehabilitation and bridge construction.
1993

Abstract
The project will supplement the activities of the Regional Drought Emergency Project (6900270). The project will rehabilitate approximately 710 kilometers (km) of gravel road in Sofala, Tete, and Zambezia Provinces in the Zambezia River Valley; rehabilitate the rail bridge over the Zambezi River at Sena so that it can accommodate vehicular and pedestrian traffic; and temporarily rehabilitate and reseal approximately 270 km of paved road in Manica Province on the Beira-Tete-Malawi corridor between Vanduzi and Changara, and 15 km of other paved road. Rejuvenation of Mozambique"s transportation infrastructure will provide direct access for relief distributions to areas currently supplied by costly airlifts; reestablish family farms; regenerate commercial activity critical to social and economic reintegration; and allow large numbers of displaced persons to return home.
