Abstract
The project aimed to strengthen the country's efforts to prevent and control the spread of the virus, as well as provide quality care to affected populations. The Paquete pedagógico is a six-module package that focuses on developing technical competencies in healthcare professionals to address the Zika virus. The modules cover topics such as attention to pregnant women and surveillance of Zika-related congenital syndrome, psychological support for families affected by Zika, and early childhood development promotion. The Paquete pedagógico was developed based on the experience gained by USAID through its previous projects, including the Proyecto de Garantía de Calidad (QAP) and the Proyecto de Mejoramiento de la Atención en Salud (HCI). These projects had previously developed a pedagogical package for developing competencies in maternal and child health, family planning, and HIV/AIDS. The Paquete pedagógico is designed to be used by healthcare professionals in training, as well as by institutions providing healthcare services and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) offering these services. The package includes a methodology for improving the quality of healthcare services, which is based on the best practices and evidence-based research. The Paquete pedagógico is composed of six modules, each with a specific focus: 1. Atención a la embarazada y vigilancia del síndrome congénito asociado a Zika (SCaZ) - This module focuses on attention to pregnant women and surveillance of Zika-related congenital syndrome. 2. Apoyo psicológico a familias afectadas por el Zika - This module addresses psychological support for families affected by Zika. 3. Vigilancia y promoción del desarrollo infantil temprano (DIT) - This module focuses on early childhood development promotion. 4. Integración de género en la respuesta al Zika - This module addresses the integration of gender in the response to Zika. 5. Diseño de intervenciones contextualmente apropiadas para abordar temas de género - This module focuses on designing interventions that are contextually appropriate for addressing gender-related issues. 6. Evaluación y monitoreo de la respuesta al Zika - This module addresses the evaluation and monitoring of the response to Zika. The Paquete pedagógico is designed to be used in conjunction with the methodology of mejoramiento continuo de la calidad (MCC), which is a continuous improvement methodology that aims to strengthen the quality of healthcare services. The package includes a range of tools and resources, including training materials, guidelines, and evaluation instruments. The Paquete pedagógico is an important tool for healthcare professionals in Nicaragua, as it provides them with the knowledge and skills necessary to address the Zika virus epidemic and provide quality care to affected populations. The package is also an important resource for institutions providing healthcare services and NGOs offering these services, as it provides them with a framework for improving the quality of their services.
