Abstract
In addition to analyzing consumption behavior and presenting demand parameters, the paper uses empirical estimates to address two separate policy-relevant issues. The first issue concerns the effect that changing the tariff on imported rice would have on consumption, expenditure, and caloric intake. The second issue is retrospective and focuses on the effect that price changes observed over the recent reform period have had on consumption, expenditure, and caloric intake among the urban population.
