Abstract
The program focuses on education, water and sanitation, and health sectors. Schools are a key component of the KP-RP, with a total of 123 schools identified for rehabilitation and reconstruction. As of March 2012, 79 schools in Swat District have been tendered, with work orders issued for all of them. Work is underway on 76 schools, while 3 schools have not yet started construction due to various reasons. In Dir Lower District, 20 schools have been tendered, with work orders issued for 15 schools. Four schools are in the process of approval, while one school has to be retendered. In Dir Upper District, 5 schools have been identified, with work orders issued for 2 schools. Three schools are still to be tendered. In Buner District, 13 schools have been tendered, with work orders issued for all of them. Work is underway on 12 schools, while one school has been completed and handed over to the Education Department. Water and Sanitation (WatSan) schemes are another critical component of the KP-RP. In Buner District, 20 proposed WatSan schemes were identified for USAID funding, including rehabilitation and construction of 16 drinking water supply schemes and construction of 4 schemes of drainage and sanitation. However, 2 DWSS were included in the Annual Development Program (ADP) of the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (GoKP). Topo surveys were conducted for the remaining schemes, and design and cost estimates were completed and submitted to the concerned quarters. It was noted that sanitation schemes were not required in the area identified. Engineering Memoranda for most of these sub-projects have been submitted to USAID. In Swat District, WatSan schemes and equipment were identified in 7 union councils of TMA Mingora. A WatSan Engineer from AGES visited the TMA from November 23-25, 2011, to find out the ground realities and make recommendations accordingly. The Engineer documented his findings and recommendations in his visit report, which were submitted to USAID/PaRRSA for further action. Health facilities are also a key component of the KP-RP. Contracts for the award of all 5 Basic Health Units (BHUs) have been finalized, and work orders have been issued to the contractors. The first milestone payment has been processed for the BHUs in Swat and Buner districts.
