Abstract
This approach differs from traditional sports development, which focuses solely on improving on-field or on-court skills. Effective Sport-for-Development programs share core principles, including clearly identified objectives, planning and execution in partnership with intended beneficiaries, a balance between sports and other activities, engagement with other partners, and a system to track activities and measure progress. Research has shown that sport can have numerous intrinsic benefits, including improved physical and mental health, social skills development, and increased self-esteem. When implemented appropriately, sport can also have extrinsic benefits, such as promoting education, economic empowerment, and peace. For example, sport can be used to promote education by providing opportunities for young people to develop skills and knowledge that can be applied in the classroom and beyond. The Promoting Youth Civic Engagement (PYCE) Sports and Activity Coordinator Program is designed to support the development of Sport-for-Development programs in various contexts. The program provides a framework for trainers to implement their own programs with other youth, and includes a range of modules and resources to support this process. The program's focus on Sport-for-Development is centered on the idea that sport can be used as a tool for achieving development goals, and that this approach can have a positive impact on individuals and communities. The PYCE Sports and Activity Coordinator Manual provides a comprehensive guide for trainers, including information on the core principles of Sport-for-Development, the benefits of sport, and the key elements of effective Sport-for-Development programs. The manual also includes a range of resources and tools to support the implementation of Sport-for-Development programs, including examples of successful programs from around the world. Effective Sport-for-Development programs require careful planning and execution, and must be tailored to the specific needs and context of the community in which they are being implemented. Trainers working with the PYCE Sports and Activity Coordinator Program must be able to adapt the program to meet the needs of their participants, and must be able to facilitate discussions and activities that promote learning and engagement. The PYCE Sports and Activity Coordinator Program is designed to support the development of Sport-for-Development programs in various contexts, and provides a range of resources and tools to support this process. The program's focus on Sport-for-Development is centered on the idea that sport can be used as a tool for achieving development goals, and that this approach can have a positive impact on individuals and communities. By providing a framework for trainers to implement their own programs with other youth, the program aims to promote the development of Sport-for-Development programs that are tailored to the specific needs and context of the community in which they are being implemented.
