Abstract
The initiative aims to promote women's economic empowerment in the region through three pillars: Women Thriving in the Workforce, Women Succeeding as Entrepreneurs, and Women Empowered in the Economy. Implementation of Pillar 1: Women Thriving in the Workforce focused on enhancing women's participation in the workforce. During the first year of implementation, the activity completed 103 trainings with women and men producers on various topics, including business networking, business governance, and product quality and marketing standards. Women continued to advance business ideas in relevant value chains in their regions and engaged actively in business leadership activities and forums at the community, municipal, and regional levels. Implementation of Pillar 2: Women Succeeding as Entrepreneurs aimed to support women entrepreneurs in developing and growing their businesses. The activity completed the initial design of the Women's Empowerment Business Development Approach (WEBDA) and developed the Activity's Gender Analysis and Action Plan, key guiding documents for activity implementation teams. Women entrepreneurs were empowered to engage actively in business leadership activities and forums at the community, municipal, and regional levels. Implementation of Pillar 3: Women Empowered in the Economy focused on promoting women's economic empowerment through various initiatives. The activity collected baseline data, with CECROPIA collecting information in Mexico during the last quarter. The baseline data collection is nearly complete, providing a comprehensive understanding of the current economic situation of women in the region. Progress indicators showed significant improvements in women's economic empowerment. Women continued to advance business ideas in relevant value chains in their regions, and their participation in business leadership activities and forums increased. The activity's Gender Analysis and Action Plan provided a framework for implementing teams to promote women's economic empowerment. Administrative and financial matters were also addressed during the reporting period. The activity's governance structure was established, and financial reports were submitted to the relevant authorities. Fundraising activities were conducted to support the activity's implementation, and leveraged resources were utilized to maximize the impact of the activity. Priorities and challenges for FY2022 included continuing to implement the activity's Gender Analysis and Action Plan, completing the baseline data collection, and promoting women's economic empowerment through various initiatives. The activity's communications strategy was also implemented to ensure effective communication with stakeholders. The activity's success stories, training provided to beneficiaries, technical assistance summary, detail on WEE beneficiary sales, summary of participation in events, and performance of activities by sub-awardee were documented in the annexes. The activity's progress was monitored and evaluated through various indicators, including the number of trainings conducted, women's participation in business leadership activities, and the impact of the activity on women's economic empowerment. Overall, the WEE in Mesoamerica initiative made significant progress in promoting women's economic empowerment in the region during the first year of implementation. The activity's implementation of the three pillars, progress indicators, and administrative and financial matters demonstrated a commitment to empowering women economically.
