Abstract
The program is based on the theory of change that if individual, family, community, and government capacities are improved, then communities' resilience will increase and communities will become safer and more secure. The project goal is to support the government of Guatemala, municipalities, civil society, and community actors to address the causes and consequences of violence through integrated prevention techniques. The CONVIVIMOS Program has four complementary and mutually reinforcing objectives. Objective 1 aims to support community commissions to institutionalize proven, integrated violence prevention projects in targeted areas. Objective 2 seeks to strengthen and mobilize municipal and national stakeholders and resources to develop and implement municipal-level violence prevention plans. Objective 3 focuses on supporting secondary prevention projects in close coordination with municipal authorities. Objective 4 aims to promote and integrate evidence-based policy making among violence prevention actors. In Fiscal Year 2018, Quarter 2, the CONVIVIMOS partners engaged in primary education initiatives for violence prevention began implementing their FY2018 activities in target schools. Fe y Alegria held trainings for 90 teachers from 17 schools on the "Reading in a Click" methodology and held Happy Circle activities with 281 students from 17 schools. Fe y Alegria also started the process of forming school governments this quarter, with a total of 31 school governments elected. The organization continues to coordinate with the Ministry of Education, presenting the findings of their school-based research this quarter. The CONVIVIMOS Program has made significant progress in broadening education initiatives in violence prevention. The program has established partnerships with various organizations, including Fe y Alegria, to implement violence prevention activities in target schools. The program has also started the process of forming school governments, which is expected to contribute to the development of social capital and community resilience. In addition to education initiatives, the CONVIVIMOS Program has also made progress in strengthening and mobilizing municipal and national stakeholders and resources to develop and implement municipal-level violence prevention plans. The program has established partnerships with various municipalities and national stakeholders to develop and implement violence prevention plans. The program has also started the process of supporting secondary prevention projects in close coordination with municipal authorities. The CONVIVIMOS Program has also made progress in promoting and integrating evidence-based policy making among violence prevention actors. Overall, the CONVIVIMOS Program has made significant progress in its first two years of implementation.
