Abstract
The project's primary focus is on promoting transparency and accountability in governance through citizen engagement and participation. The project's scope encompasses various thematic areas, including election monitoring, capacity building, and management information systems. Key findings from the month of August 2013 indicate a significant increase in the number of applications received, with a total of 1476 applications submitted. Technical reviews were conducted for 1371 applications, and 668 applications underwent review by the Grant Management Committee. The Project Steering Committee reviewed 324 applications, and 275 applications were recommended for award to USAID. A total of 143 applications were approved for award by USAID, with 54 applications in the process of approval. Implementation details for the project include the signing of grant agreements with 125 applicant organizations, with 4 agreements under process and 14 grants not awarded after USAID approval. A total of $8,261,924 was committed to grantees by USAID, with $160,313 disbursed to grantees in August 2013. The cumulative disbursement as of August 31, 2013, was $5,071,896. Capacity building efforts were also underway, with a total of 811 trainees from grantee organizations participating in various training programs. PMP workshops and training of facilitators were conducted, with 1 workshop and 7 training sessions held. Quick Impact Trainings (programmatic) were also conducted, with 13 trainings held, and a total of 193 male participants and 27 female participants. Geographic focus for the project includes various regions of Pakistan, with a specific emphasis on Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). The project's timeframes and recommendations are aligned with the USAID's goals and objectives, with a focus on promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance in Pakistan. The project's management information system (MIS) was also operational, with various components, including website management, compliance support, network infrastructure, and Grants Management Information System (GMIS). The project's communications and external relations efforts were also underway, with a focus on promoting the project's activities and achievements through various media channels. Challenges faced by the project during the month of August 2013 included restructuring of the Election Information Monitoring System (EIMS) team, contract expiries and resignations, and recruitment of new staff members. The project's management team worked to address these challenges and ensure the project's continued progress and success.
