Abstract
The activity, renamed TerresEauVie (TEV) in consultation with USAID, aims to enhance social and ecological risk management systems in Burkina Faso and Niger. The TEV Activity addresses RISE II's first objective through three components: Improved water security, Enhanced sustainable productive land use, and Improved management of shocks, risks, and stresses. The activity will be implemented across forty rural communes in the Centre-Nord, Est, and Sahel regions of Burkina Faso and in the Maradi, Tillaberi, and Zinder regions of Niger. During the third quarter of Fiscal Year 2019, TEV began building relationships with targeted communes, local governments, and other donor-funded activities. Key achievements from the quarter include: Focused effort towards collaboration with relevant stakeholders, including meetings with Mayors to support commune-level data collection, joint workshops with the SERVIR project and Ministries of Agriculture, and negotiations with REGIS-ER on a Memorandum of Understanding. Progress towards expected results of the Implement & Refine Period, including the submission of initial drafts of the FY19 Workplan, Environmental Mitigation and Monitoring Plan, and Activity Contingency Plan, as well as the development of detailed maps of sub and micro catchment areas using GIS tools. Implementation progress in the technical area, including internal workshops to draft the initial drafts of the FY19 Workplan, EMMP, and ACP, technical discussions on implementing the grants component, participation in sectoral meetings of Wash Clusters and the Flood Sub-Group, and the preparation and launch of thematic studies on water-related topics. The TEV Activity is expected to have a significant impact on the target populations, including improved water security, enhanced sustainable productive land use, and improved management of shocks, risks, and stresses. The activity will also contribute to the overall goal of RISE II, which is to support chronically vulnerable populations in Burkina Faso and Niger in managing shocks and stresses and pursuing sustainable pathways out of poverty. The TEV Activity is a collaborative effort between Winrock International, Tetra Tech, and other stakeholders, including local governments, donor-funded activities, and USAID. The activity will be implemented over a period of five years, from February 2019 to February 2024.
