Abstract
The program, implemented by Chemonics International Inc., focuses on community support, workforce development, wastewater management, technical assistance, and capacity building. Community support is a key component of the CSP, with a focus on improving the living conditions of around 7,000 residents in the old town of Saida. The program is supplying and installing 48 solar-powered LED streetlights, increasing safety and security for the local population. Additionally, CSP is supporting the Akroum COOP by installing an electrical generator and a waste management system, enabling the cooperative to provide training to farmers on the use of a centrifuging machine. Workforce development is another critical aspect of the CSP, with a focus on enhancing the skills of local youth. The program is partnering with the University Scholarship Program (USP) to provide training and capacity-building opportunities to young people. This includes training on the use of a centrifuging machine, as well as other skills development programs. Wastewater management is a significant challenge in Lebanon, particularly in urban areas. The CSP is addressing this issue through the implementation of wastewater infrastructure, including the construction of wastewater treatment plants and the installation of wastewater collection systems. The program is also providing technical assistance to municipalities and civil society organizations to support the development of wastewater management plans. Technical assistance and capacity building are critical components of the CSP, with a focus on enhancing the capacity of local institutions to deliver services effectively. The program is providing technical assistance to municipalities, civil society organizations, and community-based organizations to support the development of their capacity. This includes training and capacity-building programs, as well as the provision of technical expertise. The CSP is also implementing a range of management and operations activities, including adaptive management, human resources, accounting and finance, grants and subcontracting, vetting, cross-cutting technical support, engineering and environmental compliance, monitoring, evaluation, and learning, communications and outreach, and gender equality and women's empowerment. These activities are critical to ensuring the effective implementation of the program and achieving its objectives. The CSP has made significant progress in achieving its targets, with a range of indicators and performance tracking tables provided in the annexes. The program has also identified a number of implementation challenges, lessons learned, and next steps, which are outlined in the report. Overall, the CSP is a critical initiative aimed at addressing the needs of vulnerable communities in Lebanon, and its implementation is expected to have a significant impact on the lives of local residents.
