Abstract
05: April – June 2012. The report was produced for review by the United States Agency for International Development and prepared by Chemonics International Inc. The prime contractor for the project was Chemonics International, Inc., with partners Dexis Consulting Group. The CEED project aimed to enhance the competitiveness of Moldovan industries, including information technology, textile, wine, fashion accessories, and home furnishings. The project focused on strengthening the capacity of local businesses, improving their access to finance, and promoting exports. In the information technology industry, the project implemented several activities to strengthen QLab capacity, build practical IT skills, and promote entrepreneurship. The project also organized an ICT Summit and developed a Moldovan IT Sector Positioning Paper. Additionally, the project built the capacity of the internet market association to track and measure internet usage in the country. In the textile industry, the project implemented activities to build awareness about own brands, provide color forecast training, and enhance product design capabilities. The project also assisted apparel companies in using merchandizing tools, building an image, and increasing productivity. Furthermore, the project supported the development of a platform for apparel companies and assisted APIUS in consolidating its activities. In the wine industry, the project supported the establishment of a public-private institution to manage the wine sector, continued reforms to the legal and regulatory framework, and improved viticulture policies and regulation. The project also promoted Moldovan wine, increased awareness about Moldovan wines, and expanded sales in the domestic market. In the fashion accessories industry, the project developed a Moldovan light industry and fashion accessories website, supported enterprises in developing a corporate identity package, and assisted companies to visit and exhibit in specialized international shows. The project also improved merchandising and retail marketing of the companies and assisted them in improving their ability to provide production services. In the home furnishings industry, the project revived or restarted a furniture manufacturers association in Moldova, prepared for participation at international trade exhibitions and B2B events, and explored opportunities to benefit from Moldova's economic advantages. The project also calibrated the product offer to market requirements and built capacity in retail/wholesale management and sales and merchandizing. The project also supported emerging export industries, including automotive and tourism. The project supported the Automotive Academy, organized a Tourism Task Force, and positioned and branded Moldova's tourism sector. Additionally, the project conducted a visitor's survey and facilitated the acceleration of a "credit market" within target industries. The report presents quantitative results for each industry, including the information technology, textile, wine, fashion accessories, and home furnishings industries. The results show significant progress in each industry, including increased exports, improved productivity, and enhanced competitiveness. The project's impact is evident in the improved performance of local businesses and the increased participation of Moldovan industries in the global market.
