Abstract
The conference was organized by Save the Children in collaboration with UNICEF and USAID, and it brought together participants from 50 countries, as well as representatives from the United Nations and national and international non-governmental organizations. The conference aimed to reduce mortality rates among newborns and mothers by providing a platform for countries to share their experiences and learn from each other's best practices in implementing interventions to improve newborn survival. The conference also aimed to help countries refine their plans to accelerate the improvement of the quality and impact of their interventions. The conference methodology included PowerPoint presentations, group discussions, plenary sessions, country team work sessions, exhibitions, and poster galleries. The presentations covered a range of topics, including the scaling up of national newborn health programs, the integration of maternal and newborn care packages, global action plans, country experiences with integrated maternal and newborn care packages, and maximizing the return on investment in maternal and newborn health. Key presentations included updates on technical interventions and experiences from various countries, as well as discussions on cross-cutting programs and research results. The conference also featured technical updates on prenatal care, newborn care, and maternal health, as well as advocacy and integration of newborn care into country-level health plans. Following the conference, the next steps for the Mali team included facilitating a national meeting to review and revise the country's newborn health strategy and maternal health strategy, as well as participating in the conference's knowledge management and learning program. The team was also encouraged to stay engaged and up-to-date on the conference's outcomes and follow-up activities. The conference was attended by a range of stakeholders, including government officials, health professionals, and representatives from non-governmental organizations. The conference provided a valuable platform for countries to share their experiences and learn from each other's best practices in improving newborn health outcomes.
