Abstract
The evaluation aims to assess the capacity and security of water supply services in the commune. The study was made possible through the support of the American people through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The content of this report is the sole responsibility of Chemonics International Inc. and does not necessarily reflect the views of USAID or the Government of the United States. The evaluation involved a comprehensive assessment of the water supply services in Arbinda, including an inventory of water points and a sanitary survey. Data were collected on the population, and a diagnostic of non-functional infrastructure was conducted. The evaluation also included a sampling schedule, sampling procedure, and data analysis methods. The data were cleaned and visualized to identify trends and patterns. The results of the evaluation indicate that the population of Arbinda is served by a network of water points, including boreholes and wells. The water points are managed by a committee of governance (COGES) and are subject to regular maintenance and repair. However, the evaluation identified several challenges, including contamination of the water supply with E. coli, total coliforms, and other parameters. The evaluation also identified issues with the quality of the water, including turbidity, temperature, pH, conductivity, and dissolved solids. The evaluation recommends several interventions to improve the capacity and security of the water supply services in Arbinda. These include the closure of a water point contaminated with arsenic, rehabilitation of a water point, protection of modern wells, treatment of water with chlorine, and rehabilitation of the superstructure of water points. The evaluation also recommends training for the structures of governance of water points to improve their management and maintenance.
