Abstract
The program focuses on six counties: Bong, Gbarpolu, Lofa, Margibi, Montserrado, and Nimba. The initiative began on September 25, 2017, and is set to conclude on September 24, 2022, under contract number AID-669-C-17-00003. The program's primary objective is to increase literacy rates among primary school learners in the target counties. To achieve this goal, the initiative employs a range of strategies, including coaching and mentoring of teachers, provision of educational materials, and support for community-based organizations. The program also places a strong emphasis on monitoring and evaluation, with a focus on tracking progress towards key indicators. One of the key components of the Read Liberia Activity is the Accelerated Literacy Program (ALP), which aims to improve reading skills among primary school learners. The program involves the training of coaches who work with teachers to implement the ALP in schools. The initiative also provides support for the development of reading materials and the establishment of reading clubs. The program has made significant progress in Year 4, with a total of 2,500 schools supported across the six focus counties. The initiative has also trained over 1,000 coaches who have conducted more than 10,000 coaching visits to schools. In addition, the program has provided support for the training of over 500 education officials, including district education officers and county education officers. The Read Liberia Activity has also made progress in terms of its sustainability mechanisms. The program has established partnerships with local organizations and has provided support for the development of community-based reading programs. The initiative has also placed a strong emphasis on gender equality and social inclusion, with a focus on increasing the participation of women and girls in education. In terms of financial management, the program has been successful in meeting its financial obligations. The initiative has also been transparent in its financial reporting, with regular updates provided to stakeholders. The program has also been successful in its efforts to combat trafficking in persons, with a focus on protecting vulnerable children and adults. The Read Liberia Activity has also made significant progress in terms of its environmental compliance and global climate change initiatives. The program has implemented measures to reduce its environmental impact, including the use of energy-efficient equipment and the promotion of sustainable practices. The initiative has also placed a strong emphasis on science, technology, and innovation, with a focus on promoting the use of technology in education. Overall, the Read Liberia Activity has made significant progress in Year 4, with a focus on improving literacy rates among primary school learners in the target counties. The program's emphasis on sustainability, gender equality, and social inclusion has also been a key factor in its success.
