PACR of the Mauritanian component of a training project (8/83-9/91) to develop the human resource capabilities of Sahelian public institutions in key development sectors.
1993

Abstract
The project offered educational opportunities to Mauritanian students and professionals working or intending to work in the public sector, with special emphasis on administrative capacities. Training included long- and short-term U.S. training and third country training, and in-country seminars, workshops, and courses. Due to budgetary limitations, third country training was preferred over U.S. training when possible. Academic training was offered in the following fields: agricultural crop and livestock research; agricultural economics and farm management; veterinary medicine and animal husbandry; cooperatives; agricultural education; civil and environmental engineering; forestry, fisheries, and natural resource planning; public health and paramedical care; maternal/child health; family planning and nutrition; rural development; social anthropology; communications; public and business administration; economics; educational technology; and nonformal education. Due to the absence of final project reviews, evaluations, or Project Implementation Orders, it was not possible to ascertain the project's achievement of numerical targets or to note lessons learned.
