Abstract
The "Rehabilitation Guideline for the Management of Persons with Stroke" was developed by Humanity & Inclusion, a project funded by the USAID and implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Health in Vietnam. This guideline aims to provide rehabilitation specialists with the necessary tools to support individuals with disabilities resulting from brain lesions, including stroke. The guideline is based on the latest available scientific evidence and internationally recognized best practices. It was developed in collaboration with international experts and Vietnamese specialists, ensuring contextualization and ownership of the guidelines. The document consists of two types of guidelines: General Rehabilitation Guidelines and Technical Guidelines, which provide specific, detailed technical guidance for each type of care, including physiotherapy. The guideline emphasizes the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to rehabilitation, involving rehabilitation doctors, nurses, therapists, and other healthcare professionals. It also highlights the need for person-centered and family-centered care, which takes into account the individual's needs, preferences, and goals. The guideline provides recommendations on the intensity and duration of physiotherapy rehabilitation, as well as strategies for managing complications such as spasticity and contractures. The rehabilitation cycle is a critical component of the guideline, which involves assessment, goal setting, therapy planning, and intervention. The physiotherapy assessment is a crucial step in identifying the individual's needs and developing an effective treatment plan. The goal setting and therapy planning process involves setting realistic and achievable goals, as well as developing a plan to achieve them. The guideline also emphasizes the importance of reporting and monitoring the individual's progress, which is essential for evaluating the effectiveness of the rehabilitation program. The reporting process involves tracking the individual's progress, identifying areas for improvement, and making adjustments to the treatment plan as needed. The guideline provides a comprehensive framework for the rehabilitation of individuals who have experienced a stroke. It emphasizes the importance of a multidisciplinary approach, person-centered care, and evidence-based practice. The guideline is a valuable resource for rehabilitation specialists, providing them with the necessary tools to support individuals with disabilities resulting from brain lesions. The guideline's focus on physiotherapy rehabilitation is particularly relevant, as physiotherapy plays a critical role in helping individuals regain mobility, strength, and function after a stroke. The guideline provides recommendations on the intensity and duration of physiotherapy rehabilitation, as well as strategies for managing complications such as spasticity and contractures. Overall, the "Rehabilitation Guideline for the Management of Persons with Stroke" is a comprehensive and evidence-based resource that provides rehabilitation specialists with the necessary tools to support individuals with disabilities resulting from brain lesions. The guideline's emphasis on a multidisciplinary approach, person-centered care, and evidence-based practice makes it a valuable resource for rehabilitation professionals working with individuals who have experienced a stroke.
