Abstract
Replacement of generator windings was completed at units 1, 3, and 4, and spare seals, guides, and pumps were installed. The remaining work includes replacing electromechanical governors with digital governors, upgrading the SCADA system, and replacing spare parts for unit 3 winding and one dewatering pump. The rehabilitation work is anticipated to go beyond the completion date of December 2012 due to delays in procuring digital governors and the SCADA system. In response, WAPDA submitted an extension request to USAID, and a response is awaited. The Environmental Audit of Tarbela was shared with the concerned staff at the power plant to ensure compliance with the Environmental Management and Monitoring Plan (EMMP). Amendment-I of the Tarbela Fixed Amount Reimbursement Agreement (FARA) revised the completion date of the project to December 31, 2012. As of October 2012, total disbursement of the $16.5 million USG funding committed for Tarbela was $11,249,917. The current status of the Tarbela FARA is as follows: replacement of damaged generator stator windings with class F insulation windings for units 1, 3, and 4 has been completed, and 100% amount has been reimbursed. The SCADA system upgrade for units 1-14 was awarded in early August 2012, with a completion period of 14 months. Testing and commissioning of this activity is scheduled to be completed in October 2013. Spare seals and guides for relief and bypass valves on turbine side for units 1-10 have been installed, and 100% amount has been disbursed to WAPDA. Replacement of electromechanical governors by digital ones for units 1-10 is anticipated to be completed in June 2013. Training for 20 engineers from Tarbela power station on operation and maintenance (O&M) in Switzerland has been completed, and 100% amount has been disbursed to WAPDA. The total amount disbursed as of October 2012 is $11,249,917, which is 68% of the total committed funding of $16.5 million.
