Abstract
The visit was conducted by AEAI engineers to expedite the completion of rehabilitation works under USAID funding, inspect recently installed equipment, and verify WAPDA reimbursement claims under FARA. As of June 5, 2012, Tarbela Power Station's total generation was 2000 MW at a reservoir level of 1390 ft. The installation of new Class F winding at Unit # 3 resulted in an additional 10 MW capacity gain, bringing the total added capacity under the FARA rehabilitation program to 128 MW. The unit is capable of generating 195 MW at full reservoir level. The progress of the project includes the replacement of Unit # 4 winding with new Class F winding in May 2011, which added 108 MW to the unit's capacity. Unit # 1 winding was replaced with new Class F winding in February 2012, adding 10 MW to the unit's capacity. The installation, testing, and commissioning of Unit # 3 were completed on May 25, 2012, under the supervision of the manufacturer's representative. The unit is operating at 107 MW at a reservoir level of 1390 feet, with all technical parameters and winding temperatures within technical limits. The project also includes the replacement of seals for Relief and Bypass Valves Units 1-10, which was completed in December 2011. WAPDA/Tarbela received reimbursement for 10% of the remaining payment of $50,000 on May 21, 2012. New Station Drainage Pumps and unwatering pumps have arrived at the plant and are being installed, with a scheduled completion date of end-June 2012. WAPDA/Tarbela will submit a 90% reimbursement invoice for this milestone item. The manufacturing of Digital Governors has been completed at GE, USA, and four WAPDA engineers are scheduled to visit USA on June 18, 2012, to inspect the new Governors at GE works prior to their release for shipment, which is expected in July 2012. A new SCADA system is under manufacturing with ABB and is scheduled for shipment in October 2012. Additionally, a third and last batch of seven WAPDA engineers from Tarbela have completed training in Switzerland, bringing the total number of trained WAPDA engineers to twenty. WAPDA's invoice for the remaining 50% payment was certified by AEAI and payment was received by WAPDA on May 21, 2012.
