Abstract
The project aimed to enhance the efficiency and reliability of the water supply system, reducing power consumption in conveying treated water from 340 meters below sea level to elevations exceeding 900 meters above sea level. The project is part of the Jordan Water Infrastructure initiative, which focuses on expanding infrastructure and strengthening the country's water sector. The project involved replacing outdated pumps in five pump stations with energy-efficient pumps, providing redundancy and sustainability in the system. A new pump and motor were installed in each of the five stations, enabling the system to maintain a constant water supply to over 400,000 people in Amman. The installation of temporary pumps and motors ensured that water supply was maintained during the replacement process. The project also included the installation of new pumps and motors in the pump stations, significantly enhancing operational efficiency. The Rehabilitation of Zara Ma'in Water System has achieved notable results, including the construction of infrastructure needed for an additional pump and motor in all five pump stations. This enhancement will improve the sustainability and efficiency of the stations. The project has also begun to install new pumps and motors in the pump stations, which will greatly improve operational efficiency. Once the pumps and motors are installed in 2021, a sustainable and more cost-efficient supply of water will reach 1.7 million Jordanians. The project's implementation has been carried out in partnership with the Government of Jordan, the Water Authority of Jordan, and Miyahuna, with technical assistance provided by CDM International Inc. The project's success is a testament to the collaborative efforts of the partners involved, who have worked together to address Jordan's water scarcity challenges. The Rehabilitation of Zara Ma'in Water System is a critical component of USAID's efforts to support Jordan in addressing its extreme water scarcity, and it is expected to have a lasting impact on the country's water security. The project's impact will be felt by millions of Jordanians, who will benefit from a more reliable and efficient water supply system. The project's success will also contribute to the overall development of Jordan's water sector, enabling the country to better manage its water resources and meet the needs of its growing population. The Rehabilitation of Zara Ma'in Water System is a prime example of USAID's commitment to supporting Jordan's water security and promoting sustainable development in the region.
