Abstract
The project aimed to improve water infrastructure in Jordan, with a focus on the Aqaba region. The project was implemented by CDM International Inc., with Rick Minkwitz serving as the Chief of Party. The project's main objective was to increase the availability and reliability of water supply in the Aqaba region, with a focus on the Aqaba-Amman Water Desalination and Conveyance Project (AAWDCP). The project involved the construction of a seawater desalination plant, a water treatment plant, and a conveyance system to transport water from Aqaba to Amman. During the reporting period, from July 1, 2020, to June 30, 2021, the project made significant progress in implementing its activities. The project team conducted a series of assessments, including an environmental assessment and a social impact assessment, to identify potential risks and opportunities. The project also established a knowledge management portal to facilitate collaboration and knowledge sharing among stakeholders. The project implemented several key interventions, including the construction of a seawater desalination plant, a water treatment plant, and a conveyance system. The project also established a monitoring and evaluation system to track progress and identify areas for improvement. The project team conducted regular meetings with stakeholders, including the Government of Jordan, to ensure that the project was aligned with national priorities and goals. The project faced several challenges during the reporting period, including delays in the construction of the seawater desalination plant and the water treatment plant. However, the project team worked closely with the contractor to resolve these issues and ensure that the project was completed on time. The project made significant progress in achieving its objectives, with a total of 27 indicators tracked and reported on during the reporting period. The project also achieved several key milestones, including the completion of the seawater desalination plant and the water treatment plant. The project's sustainability and exit strategy were also a key focus area during the reporting period. The project team worked closely with the Government of Jordan to ensure that the project's outputs and outcomes would be sustained beyond the project's completion. The project also established a plan for the transition of project activities to the Government of Jordan, including the transfer of knowledge and skills to local staff. The project's environmental status report highlighted several key environmental concerns, including the potential impact of the project on the marine environment. The project team worked closely with the Government of Jordan and other stakeholders to ensure that the project's environmental impacts were minimized and mitigated. Overall, the USAID Jordan Water Infrastructure project made significant progress during the reporting period, with a focus on improving water infrastructure in the Aqaba region. The project's key interventions, including the construction of a seawater desalination plant and a water treatment plant, were implemented on time and within budget.
