Abstract
The project's main objective is to improve the water infrastructure in Jordan, focusing on the Aqaba region. The project is implemented by CDM International Inc. under the leadership of Chief of Party Rick Minkwitz. The project's scope includes the development of a new water desalination plant, the Aqaba-Amman Water Desalination and Conveyance Project (AAWDCP), which aims to provide a reliable source of drinking water to the population of Aqaba. The project also involves the construction of a new water treatment plant, the Samra Wastewater Treatment Plant, and the rehabilitation of existing water infrastructure. The project's implementation is divided into several key components, including the design and construction of the AAWDCP, the operation and maintenance of the water treatment plant, and the provision of technical assistance to the Water Authority of Jordan (WAJ). The project also includes a component for gender equality and social inclusion, which aims to promote the participation of women and marginalized communities in the project's activities. The project's progress is monitored and evaluated through a variety of indicators, including the completion of project tasks, the achievement of intermediate results, and the implementation of critical success factors. The project's performance is also assessed through regular meetings with stakeholders, including the WAJ, the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, and other government agencies. The project's environmental status is also a key focus area, with the implementation of measures to minimize the project's environmental impact, including the protection of water sources, the reduction of energy consumption, and the promotion of sustainable practices. The project's sustainability and exit strategy are also being developed, with a focus on ensuring the long-term viability of the project's outcomes and the transfer of knowledge and skills to local stakeholders. The project's collaboration and knowledge sharing with other USAID activities and partner entities in the host government and other donor agencies are also an important aspect of the project's implementation. The project's team is working closely with other stakeholders to share knowledge and best practices, and to leverage resources and expertise to achieve the project's objectives. The project's assessments, evaluations, and lessons learned are also being documented and shared with stakeholders, including the USAID/Jordan Mission and other government agencies. The project's planned activities for the next quarter include the completion of the AAWDCP design, the commencement of construction works, and the implementation of the project's gender equality and social inclusion component. The project's branding and communications strategy is also being developed, with a focus on promoting the project's outcomes and achievements to stakeholders and the general public. The project's geographic focus is on the Aqaba region, with a focus on improving the water infrastructure and promoting sustainable practices in the area. The project's timeframes are from July 16, 2018, to September 30, 2022, with a focus on achieving the project's objectives within this timeframe.
