Abstract
External evaluation covers the period 10/83-9/84 and is based on site visits and a sampling (probability proportionate to size) of 3,000 IUD acceptors. The study estimated the total number of IUD"s inserted during the evaluation period at 312,245. The IUD insertion figure given in the Management Information Systems (MIS) monthly report for the same period was 14.3% higher at 356,920. The percentage of IUD acceptors who received a follow-up visit was estimated at 78.1; the percentage who had an IUD reinserted at 2.2; and the percentage who received reimbursement of transportation costs at 75.5. The probability of continuation of IUD use was found to be 84.3% at the end of 3 months, 78.3% at the end of 6 months, and 65.9% at the end of 12 months. (Author abstract, modified)
