Abstract
External evaluation covered the period 10/84-9/85 and was based on a study of 67 government clinics under 67 upazilas, 8 non-governmental organizations under 8 upazilas, and a stratified sample survey of 3,000 IUD acceptors. The study estimated the total number of IUD's inserted during the reporting period to be 394,272. This figure is 7.5% lower than the insertion figure (423,841) reported in the management information system of the Population Control Directorate (PCD), the implementing agency. The percentage of IUD acceptors receiving a follow-up visit, the percentage reported having a reinsertion, and the percentage reporting receipt of transportation costs were estimated at 80.7, 2.0, and 82.2 respectively. The cumulative probability of continued IUD use was found to be 84.1% at the end of 3 months, 76.2% at the end of 6 months, and 67.3% at the end of 12 months. A comparison of some important estimates reported in the previous two and the present evaluation study is provided. (Author abstract, modified)
